This region of France is located in the north-eastern part of the country and therefore the climate of Champagne-Ardenne is a temperate transition climate between the oceanic climate and the continental climate, characterized by low but well distributed rainfall throughout the year, and relatively mild temperatures, this type of climate proves to be excellent for the cultivation of Champagne vineyards.
However, within the region there are some climatic differences, along the western plain, where the cities of Reims and Troyes are located, the climate is warmer and less rainy than elsewhere, with an average annual rainfall of 618 mm in Reims and of 653 mm in Troyes and average maximum summer temperatures exceeding 24°C/25°C and average minimum winter temperatures around zero.
In the hilly areas of the Ardennes and Langres, the climate is more rainy, in these regions the average annual values of precipitation are reached around 900 mm, the temperatures are slightly lower than those of the flat areas, this is partly due also to the altitude difference, these areas are located at heights between 550 meters and 400 meters. Snow is quite frequent in winter and falls on an average of 33 days a year.
WHEN TO GO TO CHAMPAGNE-ARDENNE
The best time to visit Champagne-Ardenne are the months between April and September, which are hotter and have more hours of sunshine.
