The climate of Lanzarote is sub-tropical in terms of its temperatures, and sub-desert in terms of rainfall, thanks to the mitigating action of the sea and the trade winds, it is in fact dry and mild, with little difference in the values of seasonal temperatures. Here too, as in the nearby island of Fuerteventura, sometimes the sirocco winds (calima) from Africa bring sand from the nearby desert and cause sudden increases in temperature.
The average annual temperature is 20.7°C. The average minimum temperatures vary throughout the year between 13.7°C in January and 20.7°C in August, while the average maximum temperatures record values that vary between 20.4°C in January and 28.8°C in August.
Due to the absence of large mountains, the climate of Lanzarote is dry and arid, rainfall is scarce and occurs in the winter months, December and January are the relatively wettest months. From April to October it practically never rains, the annual average of precipitation is only 110 mm, the rainy days in a year are 20. Thanks to the aridity of the climate, the island is characterized by a high number of hours of sunshine, there are an average of 2,944 hours of sunshine per year, which it is the highest value of all the Canary Islands.
The sea water temperature reaches a minimum of 18°C between February and April, the maximum sea water temperatures occur between September and October, months in which 23°C are reached.
